Building Your own Holiday Grapevine Wreath
You can build your own holiday grapevine wreath in a few simple steps!
Supplies You’ll Need
Grapevine wreath frame
floral wire
wire snips
pruning shears
a mix of winter greens
decorations such as pinecones, ribbon, dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks, bells, Christmas ornaments
Follow the instructions below to create your own stunning wreath! If you’re a visual learner, check out our link below for a video showing how we created our own wreaths!
Attach your floral wire to your wreath frame. Twist the wire around itself several times to secure it to the frame.
Build mini-bundles of mixed greens (approximately 3-4 stems), and attach to your wreath frame by wrapping the wire around the base of the bundle and the wreath frame 2-3 times. Build your next bundle, and place it 1-2 inches higher and offset towards the inside portion of the front of the frame. Attach this bundle by wrapping the wire around the bundle and the frame several times.
Continue with the above method till either you’ve covered the amount of the frame that you wished to, or you would like to switch the direction the greens are facing. If you want to change the direction of the greens, follow below.
Continue wrapping the floral wire around the wreath frame (but without adding bundles) until you’ve reached the section of the frame that you would like to start adding greens to again. Once you reach this section, wrap the floral wire around several times to ensure it’s secured.
Start building mini-bundles again and attach to the frame as mentioned above. Work towards the first set of bundles added. Keep adding bundles until you’ve reached the first section of greens added to the frame.
To cover this joined area of greens, you can wrap jute cord around the seam multiple times until the seam is covered. You could also add ornaments such as pinecones and ribbon to strategically cover this area. An additional option is to strategically place greens facing both directions, and wire them in place.
Once all your greens are added to the frame, cut the wire long, then wrap it through the wires on the backside of the frame multiple times to hold the wire tight. Poke the cut edge of the wire into the frame to prevent it from scratching your door when hung.
Cut pieces of wire to attach any other ornaments and decorations you may choose to include in your festive wreath!
Don’t forget to add a hanger. I prefer to use ribbon or jute, but one can also be constructed with floral wire.
