Humulus lupulus

Hops is a vigorous, fast-growing perennial vine best known for its use in brewing—but it’s also an excellent ornamental and functional climber for prairie gardens. Its lush green foliage quickly covers trellises, fences, and pergolas, creating shade, privacy, and strong vertical interest.

Extremely cold hardy and long-lived, hops thrive in Saskatchewan gardens with minimal fuss once established. In late summer, female plants produce cone-shaped flowers used for brewing, herbal applications, and decorative drying.
